Andy Murray. The 3rd best player in the world?
Greg Rusedski believes Andy Murray is one of the world’s top three players and is well on the way to being the best.
The British number one has moved up to ninth in the ATP rankings after he opened his season by claiming his fourth tour title in Doha on Saturday.
“He is playing the best tennis of his career and, to my mind, right now he is the third best player in the world,” the former top-ranked Briton and US Open finalist told BBC Radio Five Live.
“If he continues as he is, he can be the number one and win a major in the next few years.”
Rusedski believes just Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal can claim to be better than the youngster from Dunblane.
He added: “Only they are above him at the moment.”

Rusedski is a schmuck, but Murray does have potential to be among the top 3, even though he is not right now. Murray had a chance to qualify for the Masters and would have had he beaten Richard Gasquet in Paris. Richard Gasquet played too tough for Murray that day and showed more heart and determination in doing so.
I think Andy Murray has top 5 talent right now and once he has a result in the French Open and Wimbledon he will be in the top 5. The top 3 is quite a bit different than top 5 though. Murray still has not excelled at a slam and he still doesnt have the ability to surpass Djokovic, so unless Nadal misses the claycourt season he has his work cut out for him. You don’t think he is going to knock Roger from the top 3 do you?
2 years from now I think Andy Murray may have top 3 ability, as he is one of the best returners in the game and he has a steady game. That said, he is still a bean pole and needs to get stronger. He is working on it, but he is not there now
