tennis forehand grips
tennis grips – really confused!!!!!?

well iv been playing tennis very occasionally for years and just for fun but now im really determined to improve and willing to paractice loads.

but the thing is that i only found out about the different grips now (doh! >.<) and realosed iv only ever played with an Eastern grip. despite this my serves have been quite decent - not enough to get aces though. :(

well now im trying to adapt to the continental grip and finding it very awkward and difficult. but im really confused about the advantages of this grip. i mean it is supposed to be used for both, forehand and backhand slices as well but surely a backhand grip is more beneficial for a forehand slice and a (semi) western more beneficial for a backhand slice.

also, surely an Eastern grip should be the neutral grip for tennis instead of the Continental grip as the racket is not tilted in this grip and the Continental grip does tilt the racket head slightly.

please help - im really confused :S

Are you sure that you use the eastern grip because the eastern grip because that is the onehander backhand grip or unless you have a really extreme grip. My advice for you is to stick with a semi-western grip (if you don’t know look it up on youtube). The semi-western grip provides greaat spin for consistancy and power. Its a versitile grip for hitting flat shots and can be very defensive. Learn to up up towards the sky with that grip and after you’ve master depth with that grip focus on power and i can pretty much gurantee that you will have a good forehand.
