tennis knee brace

Do doctors use casts for broken bones less than they used to? If so, why?
My friend and I were watching Rear Window recently, and James Stewart is sitting there in a hip and leg cast. I said, “wow that must be so itchy and uncomfortable…and for so long, too.” “I don’t think they do that anymore,” my friend responded, “When was the last time you saw someone in a cast like that?” I tried to think about it, but I the last one I could remember was someone in high school 14 years ago. I remembered kids used to sign the casts. When my mother broke her arm and elbow a few years ago after falling in a tennis match, she got surgery and this removable thing to wear. A guy from college who had knee surgery wore a removable brace with hinges on it. So, is my friend right? Do they not use casts anymore? Or do they limit their use? If so, why?
if you have a broken bone you should get a cast. i think sometimes now if the break isn’t that bad or just a small fracture they use a brace instead and like with surgery you don’t normally get a cast because they have to watch for infections. idk where you live but i know that where i live just at our school there are 4 of us with casts. i see a lot of ppl with casts. I think though that they use a lot more splints then casts because now its easier to know if it isn’t broken and just a sprain in which case they don’t use casts.
