Texas colleges?
i’m a sophomore (in high school) and i have lived in dallas texas my whole life. i really like it here and i want to at least say in texas for college. I played one year of high school football (i didn’t quit half way through i was on the team from august 1st to july 31st.) im in track, tennis, and always playing in the recreational psa league (which actually counts as a credit, apparently.) i got a 163 on the psat and im in the top 88% of juniors in my school and in the top 90% of all juniors. I have a 3.4 and i know i can raise that at least to a 3.6 by the end of the year. i am in the national math club (woot!) and i participate in all of the national math tests. I want to attend SMU but my teacher (who apparently can pull a lot of strings for me) thinks i should go to Rice in houston. SMU is closer to home and seems more my level of intelligence. TCU is also a choice but i don’t know much about it. Any suggestions for ANY texas colleges are good.
This is a very personal decision; for me, it was Texas A&M at College Station, no question. I absolutely love it here. You need to consider what kind of environment you want; UT and A&M are going to have big student bodies, which is great for some people, not so much for others. Private vs public is another consideration, as well as financial aid. If you’re counting on that, it could come down to what university can offer you the scholarship money you need. From the sound of your grades and activities, you shouldn’t have any trouble applying for these.
Most importantly, I would strongly suggest taking the time to make campus visits. That was what the deciding factor was for me. I visited UT and Tech, which are both very good schools, but when I visited A&M, it was love at first sight. When you know, you’ll know. Best of luck!
