Need mental help for tennis after failing at my first tennis practice!!!?

Ok, here’s the deal. I’m a 4.0 player (more or less) that plays pretty well, able to put topspin on the ball and hit consistently. My backhand is nice, and I can volley pretty well. However, my main problem is nerves.

Everytime I become confident, I can play at the level of a 4.5 player, consistently hitting winners and aces from my serve. However, after just totally messing up my first practice, I need help. Can anyone offer me some tips to getting me psyched for tomorrow?

I think over confidence is a killer in this case, don’t get me wrong you MUST be confident in your ability but never OVER confident! Somewhat of a contradiction i suppose. Never the less…

I think you need to remember why you love to play tennis. Remember the way it made you feel when you won your last set or game and strive to acheive that feeling each time (even if you lose) Everyone messes up, and loses confidence in themselves, it happened to me just last night i was playing doubles and we won the first to game… and because i got cocky and tried too hard we lost the last 4! For the rest of the night i could barely make contact and didn’t really try i was way to embarressed after the first loss. That was the wrong thing for me to do, i should have got back up there and said i can do this! Instead letting the stuff up get to me. So i guess what i am saying is have faith in yourself and your ability and you will succeed! Good luck and all the best for your tennis career!
