John Isner is ready to fight against Marco Chiudinelli in the tournament, ‘French Open 2010′ on Monday at Court 1.
His next tournament was the 2010 Serbian Open, where he was the second seed behind defending champion, tournament host, and world number two Djokovic. With wins over Josselin Ouanna 6-2, 6-4, Richard Gasquet 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-3, and Stanislas Wawrinka 7-5, 7-5, Isner advanced to the first claycourt final of his career, third final of the year, and fourth final of his career. In the final, he faced Sam Querrey and lost 6-3, 6-7(4), 4-6 despite having a match point while serving up 6-3 5-4; this was the second consecutive final Isner lost to Querrey after serving for the championship. However, Isner’s finals performance improved his ranking to a career-high number 19.
Isner’s next tournament was his debut appearance at the Madrid Masters. Seeded thirteenth, he defeated Christophe Rochus and Santiago Giraldo after losing the first set in each match. He then lost to world #3 and eventual champion Rafael Nadal 7-5, 6-4 in the round of 16.
Isner then played in the 2010 French Open; his ranking assured him of being directly seeded into a Grand Slam event for the first time in his career. Seeded 17th, he defeated Andrey Golubev 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round for his first ever victory at the French Open. He will next face Marco Chiudinelli in the second round. In the doubles, he and Querrey are the 12th seeds.
In July 2010, he will play with the Boston Lobsters of the World TeamTennis pro league.
