tennis topspin

Do tennis players hit most forehands with topspin or with backspin?
thanks mrbojanges. excellent help.
Mostly with topspin because it takes more effort to hit a backspin. Muscles used for topspin usually uses the powerful muscles along your shoulder which makes it less of a struggle than slicing shots because it involves completely different muscles that are less widely used. It’s also less comfortable to slice because it’s very relaxing to make a topspin shot when your arm has to lunge forward and wrap around your neck over your shoulder. Slices requires a firmer and steadier grip. Also the typical grips for forehands, semi-western and western, are not designed for backspin (continental or eastern) so changing grips is a pain and rather, players just avoid slicing.
However, for the backhand, slicing is much easier than topspin if you use a one-hander because of the comfort of your stroke. A topspin one-handed backhand is very uncomfortable, brushing the ball upwards is harder than brushing it downwards.
Typically one-handed backhand players just hit spinless power shots because it just requires lunging your arm forward and out rather than struggling to get your arm over your head for that topspin. Slices are just as comforting because the grip you use for those power shots are the same as the grip used for slicing, unlike a variety of grips on your forehand.
