How do you know when to “force” an 11 year old tween boy into activities for his benefit?

We have an 11 year old son that is just not interested in extra curricular sports, music, activities, etc. We have tried to get him involved in golf, tennis, camps, instruments, swim lessons, baseball, plays, you name it. All he wants to do is play on the computer, DS, etc. He is EXTREMELY smart, earns high marks in schools, makes friends easily, but is simply not very active. We do not want him sitting home with no interests and behind the computer or video games. We are at the point in which he is enrolled in swim team, piano, and a church youth group, all in which he complains about. Are we doing him harm by forcing such things upon him? How do we present these activities to him in a positive light while still giving him his space, which we try to do very much during the week and weekends?

Any respectful advice would be appreciated.

not all kids are into sports..it sounds like you give him many opportunities to engage in sports if he is interested but if he isn’t and enjoys the computer and tech stuff then maybe allow him to broaden that spectrum. offer him computer camp, or kids at college programs just because he isn’t outgoing in sports doesn’t mean he will turn into a couch potato he just might be the next bill gates.. good luck and best wishes
